Drink Youself Healthy with a Grapefuit Green Smoothie
Nope, I didn't celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I didn't dress up in anything green, not even underwear. I didn't drink ale or beer of any kind that was dyed green for the occasion. I didn't feast on cabbage or corned beef. I didn't don a huge green hat or a "Heart Me, I'm Irish" tee shirt or wear a small green lapel pin. Nothing.Even.Remotely.Close. I'm not connected to the Dublin blacks of Ireland or the Irish blacks of Europe. I don't have any Irish roots that I know of. But I did make a phat green smoothie chock full of all the goodness that I should incorporate in my diet everyday! I got the idea from here but freaked it out to be Nappy! And can I just brag a bit? It was smashing dahling!
Here are the ingredients:
1/2 bag baby spinach
1 large cucumber
5 kale leaves
1 peeled grapefruit
20 ounces spring water
I blended all ingredients on high in the blender until it was smooth and drank it like it was my last meal. I mean, it was good! The banana added some sweetness to balance the tart taste of the grapefruit. I was grateful because grapefruit is certainly not my favorite tasting fruit, but it has lots of properties that help the body out in so many ways: overall cleansing of general nastiness from the body, liver detoxification, and acts as a champion in the mighty battle of weight loss and weight maintenance. Plus, it just helps to give me a natural boost of energy that releases naturally throughout the day. I thought about adding a radish or parsley as garnish in case this concoction was just plain nasty, but I didn't have one handy - bummer!
