Naturally FLYY Detroit's Hair Meetup

The natural ladies of Naturally FLYY Detroit have done it again! Sistas with locs, braided hair, curly hair, tapered afros, frohawks, twist outs, coil outs, and bantu knots came together to greet one of their own: Chris-Tia Donaldson.
The Natural Sistas of Naturally Flyy Detroit
Sweet Potato Sensations Bakery Cafe provided a warm and cozy backdrop for a celebration of our natural naps. December's edition of the Natural Hair Meet-Up featured the lovely naturalista and best selling author of Thank God I'm Natural: The Ultimate Guide to Caring For and Maintaining Natural Hair, Chris-Tia Donaldson. Chris-Tia came home to share her story of transitioning her hair from a relaxer to a wig to an evolved natural diva!

The house was packed with nappy sistas flaunting their glorious crowns in the way that God made them. Sistas stood up to share their reasons for choosing to be natural; the applause was deafening as inspirational stories of triumph over society's view of beauty were told. We were all empowered with testimonials of overcoming negative stereotypes of natural hair to being confident rocking your natural twists or barber cuts in the corporate world.

Sharing, Loving, Empowering
Tips were given on how to care for and maintain your natural hair, regardless of how you wear it. Some sistas were even led to begin to change unhealthy lifestyles since they no longer had to worry about sweating out their 'doos. Spiritual insights were shared and the vibe was so live that the spirit of love permeated the room. There were ten great hair product giveaways including Miss Jessie's, The Jane Carter Solution, Mixed Chicks and Oyin. Chris-Tia also gave away two blinged out "Thank God I'm Natural" tees, two totes, and two autographed books!

The Beautifully Loc'd Misha Freedom
The spot was jumpin' with talented vendors selling the fruits of their labor. The seeds of future business relationships were planted and many new nappy friends were made. I was uber excited for the chance to meet up with some newly natural divas that recently big chopped and are sporting TWAs, buds or twists for the first time!

So, say what you want about Detroit: claim that we don't have any natural women, or say that sistas don't support one another, but you'd be sadly mistaken. I know for a fact that a cadre of beautiful natural nappy afro sporting sistas, and the men that love them, came out to support their friends and a hometown diva who is reaching back to uplift her community, the natural Chris-Tia Donaldson. I feel blessed to have participated. For those who missed this meet up....just don't miss again.
